After a 3-1 defeat to Icelandic organisation Dusty, British organisation MnM Gaming have been relegated from the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC). With the team falling into the UK League of Legends Championship (UKLC), there is now one less promotion spot available in the UKLC relegation event starting on the 29th March.

This means that Viperio, along with Lucent Esports from the UKEL, will be facing off against former UKLC teams Bulldog Esports & Demise for one promotion spot, instead of the previously expected two.

Christopher Sword commented on the change:

“It is disappointing that the outcome at the 1st tier affects promotion from the 3rd tier of the UKI & Nordics ecosystem. Hopefully there are amendments to the rules to avoid this happening in the future”

“We’re still going to try out best to hunt for that spot at promotion, and hopefully deliver a performance fans can be proud of”

In addition to the change, the UKLC spot previously occupied by MnM Gaming Academy will be sold privately by MnM Gaming, due to rules which prohibit teams owning two teams in the same league.

The tournament structure of the UKLC relegation event will also be altered due to MnM’s relegation. The format will move from GSL (double elimination bracket) to a single elimination bracket. Viperio’s first match will be against Bulldog at 6pm on 29th March. The winner of this series will then play the winner of Demise vs. Lucent for promotion into the UKLC for Summer 2021.
