We recently announced the acquisition of Kian “Velo” Olsen, the latest member of our Fortnite division. To help you get to know him better, we sat him down to discuss his views on Fortnite, and his interests outside of the game.
Kian Olsen, Fortine Player for Viperio
For those that do not know you, could you tell us a little about yourself?
“My name is Kian, I am turning 17 the 4th of May, I am a positive and outgoing person, I’m mostly always happy and try to be the best person I can be. I love sports and doing things with friends and my girlfriend, and obviously I love gaming and esports.”
What made you start playing Fortnite competitively, and why do you continue to play?
“I’ve been playing Fortnite since battle royale came out, I started out on console, I bought a pc around season 4, and after that I noticed that I was really good at the game. I got inspired by seeing mitr0 being an absolute beast in the pop up cups, so after that I started myself. The reason I continue to play is because I simply love competition and I always want to be the best, and compete against others and obviously myself.”
Could you give your view on the current competitive landscape for Fortnite? Where do you think it does well and what could it improve on?
“At this moment I really feel like the developers don’t care about the competitive players like they used to do, there’s a lot that could be fixed, a lot of unbalanced things, but I like to be positive and see more good things than bad, I’m very thankful for the opportunities they give all players and how good of a game it really is, positivity is key, and if you’re negative it’s not gonna get you anywhere.”
Are you going to be competing to qualify for the FNCS solos? How are you preparing for those events?
“I’m going to go through a surgery soon, and I don’t know the exact date, but if the surgery doesn’t get in the way of the tournament, I will definitely play it. I usually prepare by playing customs and always try to improve my game, getting used to different play styles and putting myself in situations that I haven’t before. I try different drop spots for example, Boxfighting, doing realistic fights against other pros, always improving.”
Outside of Fortnite, what are your biggest interests?
“Outside of Fortnite my biggest interest is 100% football, I was born in to a Football family, everyone loves football, I support a club that’s in the highest division in Swedish football which is called Helsingborgs IF, it’s the club of the city where I live, one of the best fanbases in Swedish football. I support Manchester United internationally, because my grandpa is a big fan. I also like spending time with my girlfriend She makes me feel good and feel happy. I appreciate her a lot. I also like spending time with family and friend because they always get you back on the right track if I am down.”
